President Muhammadu Buhari says government is determined to salvage the country and make it better than it met it.
He made the declaration on Wednesday night, when he hosted youth political appointees serving in the current administration.
The Nigerian leader, who frowned at the rush by some Nigerians, especially the youth, in search of greener pastures elsewhere, insisted that Nigeria has all it takes to live a good life.
He, therefore, urged all citizens of the country to join hands with government and contribute to nation building.“If people don’t feel good about this country, let them go and find out what is happening elsewhere but we are going to stay here and we are going to salvage this country together. I have gone through a lot, I have been Governor, I was in charge of our petroleum sector for over three years, I was Head of State and now I have come without the uniform and have visited each of the 774 Local government Areas in this country. The intension of this administration is to do the infrastructure and give education and healthcare to our people especially the poor,” he said.
President Buhari noted that agriculture has blossomed under his administration, making more Nigerian rich in the process.
“I foresaw our problem in agriculture and did the right thing and today, people are much better, In terms of unemployment, our able bodied persons that do not have education and can’t get white-collar jobs, went back to till the land and today, none of them is regretting it. It’s very rare now to see idle people and the farmers are making money,” he said.Optimism
Also speaking at the event, Secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha, expressed optimism that President Buhari will win at the polls next year, because of what he has so far achieved.
“I’m absolutely confident that arising from this meeting, these ones will be the apostles of change in this country and they will be able to drive the message with such robustness and determination; we went through the 2015 election with promises, we will go to the 2019 elections with our scorecard,” he said.
Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, who also described himself as a youth, thanked President Buhari for hosting the dinner thus recognising the youth. He also said the President’s scorecard will attract more votes for him in 2019.
“I am so excited, elated and comfortable, knowing fully well that we are approaching the 2019 general election with issues, facts and figures including what the President promised that nation while campaigning in 2015 and what he has been able to achieve so far in the midst of various challenges and we are happy that we have something to take back to the people. Our scorecard is very rich,” he added.
The well attended dinner had numerous appointees of the President, that fall within the age bracket of 35 and 49.
