Actress Gloria Anozie-Young and Patrick Adibuah are members of the star-studded cast of the play, Such is Life, which is expected to light up the stage at the ongoing MUSON Festival on Saturday, October 27.
Written by Prof. Femi Osofisan and directed by Kenneth Uphopho, ‘Such is Life’ is the feature drama for the festival. It is a hilarious comedy with all the elements of a thriller necessary to keep audiences on the edges of their seats from the beginning to the end.
The play tells the story of Prof. Juokwu (Patrick Diabuah) who has made a scientific discovery that will eventually land him in trouble with his wife, Obioma (Gloria Young) and Mr. Akubundu (Kanayo Okani). Other exceptional actors and actresses on the cast include Omololu Shodiya, Friday Francis and Bunmi Sogade.
Explaining why Such Is Life was chosen for MUSON Festival 2018, Uphopho said, “The theme and sub-themes projected in the play resonate with the direction of the festival. The dynamic choice of language and style displayed by the characters, who are well-rounded, is a testament to the writer’s proficiency.”
Although the play is a hilarious comedy, it also contains doses of grave political implication for the country. Humour is used as a tool to project the severity of the situation in the play.
Also, describing ‘Such is Life’ as a satire on the government devised through the family institution, the director said, “The play covers the political, social, ethnic and economic factors prevalent in the society today. There is a thorough dissecting of the different economic programmes that the government has introduced, which in turn have been potentially ‘unfavourable’ to the masses. The play also takes a cursory look at infidelity and adultery as they affect the society at large in the grand scheme of things.”
Such is Life is produced by Brenda Uphopho for PAW Studios.
