UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) — United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday condemned the double suicide attacks carried out by suspected Boko Haram elements on Feb. 9 at a refugee camp in northeast Nigeria, said a statement of Ban’s spokesman.
Nearly 60 people were killed and 78 others injured in twin suicide bomb attacks in the Dikwa Camp in north-eastern Nigeria. Refugees had queued up to receive food rations when the attacks occurred.
The Secretary-General extended his deepest sympathy and condolences to the government and people of Nigeria and to the bereaved families. He also wished a speedy recovery to those injured, said the statement.
While calling for an end to all acts of terrorism and sectarian violence in the country, Ban reaffirmed the support of the United Nations to the Nigerian government in its fight against terrorism, and reiterated his call for a comprehensive approach to preventing and countering the scourge of terrorism, it said.
