Abuja chamber seeks govt’s support for entrepreneurs

The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry has called on the government at all levels to provide support to companies that have shown resilience in the face of economic challenges.

The chamber also named Dangote Cement Plc as the most outstanding company for 2015.

The announcement was made by the President of the Chamber, Mr Tony Ejinkeonye, in Abuja.

He also named Olam Nigeria Ltd and the Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas Ltd as other companies that would be honoured for their various roles in promoting investment and Corporate Social Responsibility.

Ejinkeonye said the chamber’s aim of giving the awards was to encourage organisations not to despair in the face of serious economic challenges.

He said the award was also meant to spur them to carry on their business with renewed enthusiasm powered by reinvigorated business ideas.

The ACCI boss added that the award was also a platform for the chamber to express its support to the Federal Government’s move to diversify Nigeria’s economic base and to shift attention from crude oil.

He said, ‘’After a thorough review of the award, the chamber felt the need to institute a sustainable and enduring award process with established and clearly defined criteria and metrics which shall equitably apply to all organisations in any category under consideration at any point in time.

“This year’s award is being organised to celebrate outstanding organisations that have contributed to the growth of the national economy even in the face of the economic downturn being experienced as a result of low oil prices.”
