Police parade 13 suspected cultists, robbers

THE Cross River State Police Command has paraded nine suspected cultists and four armed robbers arrested by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. John Eluu, on Monday said the suspects were arrested following a tip-off.

He said, “On February 29, 2016, at the Ikot-Ansa area of Calabar, information got to us that a team of suspected cultists murdered one Fred Akiba. A team of operatives from the Federal Housing Police Station stormed the area and nine cultists were apprehended.

“We recovered two locally-made pistols, one live cartridge, two army caps, one plastic mask, some wraps of Indian hemp, eight phones and others.”

According to Eluu, two of the armed robbery suspects, Victor Obim and Peter Edim, were arrested in the Boki Local Government Area of the state on February 17.

He said the suspects were threatening the peace of Orumekpan community in Boki.

“The other two robbery suspects, John Nnamdi and Uwem Asuquo, were also arrested on February 21 when the police raided a criminal hide-out in the Odukpani LGA,” he added.

The PPRO stated that investigation was still ongoing, adding that the suspects would be charged to court soon.
