Mercy Aigbe: Lagos Government demands to take over case from police

The Lagos State Government wants to take over the case of alleged assault on Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe by her husband Lanre Gentry.

The state has written the Nigerian police demanding that it forward the duplicate of the case file.

The State in the letter written through the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, DPP, and dated May 22, indicated its interest in prosecuting the alleged case of assault.

The decision to write the Police was sequel to the result of the medical check-up conducted on the actress that indicated alleged assault by her husband.

The letter, written to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigative Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos Mainland Local Government, DPP, was also copied to other relevant agencies.

The State Government pointed out that the assault contravened sections 171, 243 and 244 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
