APC urges enhanced security for Ebonyi bye-election

The Ebonyi State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the Nigeria Police, DSS, and other security agencies to enhance security measures in the Ebonyi South senatorial zone as the party conducts a bye-election.

follows the vacancy created in the Senate after the resignation of Senator David Umahi, who represented Ebonyi South senatorial zone, to assume the position of Minister of Works.

On Friday, the APC conducted a 5-man delegate election to determine its senatorial candidate.

Stanley Okoro Emegha, the State Chairman of APC, who addressed the media in Abakaliki, stated that the party was conducting a fresh election to ensure the emergence of an APC Senator for Ebonyi South zone.

Emegha noted that the delegate election was an internal matter of the party.

He assured that a robust security architecture, including the police, DSS, and other law enforcement agencies, had been put in place to guarantee a smooth and trouble-free poll.

“The police and DSS are on the ground to ensure the smooth conduct of the election. Remember, it’s an internal affair. We have always used dialogue to come up with our stand as a party,” he stated.

In response, Mr Smart Iheazor, the Chairman of the 7-man Screening and Special Congress Committee, clarified that two party members in the state had purchased the election form.

“We have commenced action immediately. We screened the candidates that have purchased the form for the election. Two persons purchased the form, but only one returned the completed form, while the second person didn’t return the form,” he added.
