PDP suspends ex-Abia Reps member, Abonta for alleged anti-party activities

The immediate past member who represented Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency, Hon Uzoma Nkem Abonta, under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been suspended from the party.

This was made known to newsmen in Akwete today, Wednesday 28, in a statement by the PDP Ward Chairman and Secretary of the party in Akwete-Ohandu Ward.

Some of the reasons they alleged include: anti-party activities, factionalization of the party in the ward, boastfully subjecting the party to several court litigations without any recourse to the PDP internal mechanism of settling conflicts and disputes, his appointment as the Deputy Director-General of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2023 general election and his public acceptance of the said appointment, his refusal to hand over the motorcycle given to the Ward Chairman by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, his blatant refusal to pay the party dues for several years now, and his open defection to APGA at their party’s Secretariat in Umuibe, Akwete, the conversion of his residence to APGA Secretariat in the Ward, his open campaign against the party in the last general election, and several other offenses.

According to the resolution of the party on the suspension of the former PDP Rep. Member, they said: “His suspension followed a motion moved by an Ex. Officio of the Party and a Stakeholder in the Ward, Chief Zacheus Okere, seconded by Chika Okere, and adopted by no fewer than 15 stakeholders and leaders, as well as members of the PDP Ward Executive of the Ward.

Zacheus Okere, introducing the motion calling for the immediate suspension of Hon Uzoma Abonta from the party, drew the attention of the Ward Executive of PDP in Akwete-Ohandu to the fact that it is no longer hidden that the former lawmaker is no longer a member of the party, as his actions against the party before and after the general election clearly suggest that he has officially left the party.

“He went on to draw the committee’s attention to the fact that Hon. Abonta has refused to attend the party meetings in the Ward despite several invitations extended to him for meetings.

Abonta has not reacted to his suspension, but one of his close allies, who pleaded anonymity, said the former House of Representatives member was innocent of the allegations.”
