LG poll: LP in crisis, ZLP waxes stronger ahead of election

Members of the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, in Abia State, have flagged off their campaigns ahead of the forthcoming chairmanship and councillorship elections.

Speaking at the event held at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba, the state chairman of the party, Chris Onukwue, charged the candidates to take their campaigns to the nooks and crannies of Abia State.

He said that the party is poised to win the election, scheduled for Saturday, November 2, urging the chairmanship and councillorship candidates in the 17 LGAs to work together with the leadership of the party to deliver at the polls.

In their responses, the ZLP chairmanship candidates for Isuikwuato, Chinedu Ekeke, who is the immediate past Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Alex Otti, his Umuahia North counterpart, Smart Ihuoma, and other candidates, assured that with the tickets given to them to fly the flags of the party, they would take their campaigns to all the nooks and crannies of the state and emerge victorious.

The candidates equally said that they would represent the new face of leadership at the grassroots when elected on November 2.

The ruling Labour Party is presently in crisis in the state, with the Emmanuel Otti and Ndubueze factions struggling to control it.

Meanwhile, posters of ZLP candidates have flooded Umuahia and Aba, indicating that the party may likely steal the show in the November 2 election.

Meanwhile, speaking in Aba on Thursday while commissioning some projects executed by Aba South LGA chairman, Governor Alex Otti said that Abia people will vote for the right candidates irrespective of their platforms.

“As I have always known, Abia people go for the right candidates despite platform bias,” Otti told the Aba crowd.
