In the petition, the governor allegedly accused the councils’ executives of insubordination and gross misconduct.

The governor claimed that the council chairmen refused to submit the financial account statements of their respective local governments to the State Asset Verification Committee.

In its resolution, the House suspended the chairmen and vice chairmen for two months. It, however, directed the legislative leaders of the various local governments to take charge of the affairs of the councils in the interim.

DAILY POST recalls that Governor Monday Okpebholo, on December 3, 2024, gave the council chairmen 48 hours to submit statements of account to the Assets Verification Committee.

Okpebholo directed the council chairmen to submit the statements of account to the Assets Verification Committee through the office of the Secretary to the State Government, SSG.

He stated that the statements of account should cover the period from September 4, 2023, to the present.

He added that the statements would help and enable the Assets Verification Committee to perform its duties effectively and efficiently.
