Kachia University Council: Tinubu’s choice of Kukah, Qurix delights CAN

The Northern chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for constituting the Governing Council of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia.

CAN described the constitution of the Governing Council as a bold step toward advancing education in Nigeria.

A statement on Tuesday issued by its Chairman, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, welcomed the appointments, particularly the selection of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council and Prof. Qurix Williams Barnabas as the Vice-Chancellor of the newly established university in Kaduna State.

According to CAN, “The appointment of these distinguished individuals is a testament to President Tinubu’s commitment to education and national development. It signals his resolve to provide the best leadership for the future of Nigeria.”

The Christian body also felicitated with other principal officers of the university, including Registrar, Sanusi Gambo Adamu, Bursar Ibrahim Dalhat, and Librarian Prof. Daniel Abubakar, urging them to bring their wealth of experience to bear in shaping the institution’s vision.

Northern CAN expressed confidence in Bishop Kukah and Prof. Qurix leadership, saying that their track records in leadership and academia will position the university as a hub for research and applied sciences.

Hayab said, “We urge them and their team to provide visionary leadership and lay a solid foundation for the university’s growth.

“Their expertise will be instrumental in ensuring the institution achieves academic excellence and innovation.”

The Federal University of Applied Sciences, formerly known as Nok University, was renamed following its takeover by the federal government.

The institution is set to admit its first batch of students in September 2025.
