Guinness Nigeria has affirmed its commitment to the Nigerian community and football culture with its recently concluded Premier League Trophy Tour across two major cities, Enugu and Lagos.
According to a statement, Guinness Nigeria’s tour allowed thousands of football fans to engage with the Premier League silverware.
The three-day exercise, held in partnership with the English Premier League, formed part of the company’s 75th anniversary celebrations and highlighted its trademark fan experience, the Guinness MatchDay.
The beverage company described the event as “a bold celebration of football, culture, and community”.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Guinness Nigeria, Girish Sharma, noted that the tour underscored the power of football to unite Nigerians, stating, “This has been an incredible journey, not just for Guinness, but for every fan who showed up.
Football is more than a game. It’s a community. It’s passion. And through this tour, we’ve put fans at the centre of the action.”
The Lagos leg of the tour ended at The Palms Shopping Mall, where fans gathered to see the Premier League Trophy and participate in interactive fan zones, live performances, and immersive brand experiences.
The MatchDay zones featured Guinness bars, noise-cancellation headset replays booths, personalised jersey stations, and other fan engagement activities.
Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who hosted a press conference at the State House in Marina, applauded Guinness Nigeria for its role in shaping the country’s social and cultural landscape.
“It’s exciting to see Lagos as part of this historic tour. Guinness has long been a part of our story, from being the first destination for its brewery outside the UK to its decades of social impact,” Sanwo-Olu remarked.
“It also feels great to have the real Premier League Trophy in Lagos. It reinforces something positive about our enthusiasm, and it is gratifying to know that this is specially brought to us by none other than a 75-year-old Guinness Nigeria,” he added.
Meanwhile, Guinness Nigeria’s Marketing and Innovation Director, Olayinka Bakare, described the initiative as more than a fan event.
He explained, “This wasn’t just a trophy tour. It was a celebration of identity, pride, and shared joy. At Guinness, we are committed to curating bold, culturally relevant experiences that reflect the heartbeat of our consumers.”
Football fans in attendance echoed the brand’s sentiments. A Liverpool FC supporter, Malik Ibitoye, said, “Seeing the real Premier League trophy was surreal, like standing on the pitch at Anfield. Guinness created something unforgettable, and I’ll carry this moment with me for life.”
