Nigerians have taken to social media to call on Elon Musk to buy Nigeria in reaction to his acquisition of Twitter for $44 billion.
According to the tweets, Nigeria would be better off in the hands of the richest man in the world than be governed by its ‘greedy’ leaders as they compare the amount used to purchase Twitter to the yearly budget of the country.
Musk had announced an offer to buy the social media platform on April 14, for $54.20 a share, or about $43billion.
The additional $1billion price tag is said to reflect the purchase of additional shares revealed by Twitter.
This deal means Twitter will now be taken private, ending its run on the stock market which began in 2013.
Some of the tweets read:
Is it true you bought twitter already? @elonmusk ???? I must say Congratulations???? but just one thing let’s build a Twitter headquarter in Nigeria, Nigeria has an impeccable number of users on the bird app, especially the youths has embraced it as a voice. — DARLINGTON(Bldr)???????? So @Twitter is going private after @elonmusk put $44 billion on the table. Did they ever open a #Nigeria office? Some context: at no time has Nigeria’s federal budget ever exceeded $33 billion, and at no time since 1999 have we met our revenue projections. Poverty na bastard…— Chxta (@Chxta) April 25, 2022
