Truckers lament N150, 000 towing fee by Lagos

Container Truck Owners Protest N150,000 Towing Charges By Lagos GovernmentTruckers, under the auspices of the Amalgamation of Container Truck Owners Association of Nigeria, have lamented the imposition of N150, 000 as towing fee for a broken down truck by Lagos State officials.

The fee was imposed on a distance of about 200 to 1,000 meters.

The association disclosed this in a letter titled, ‘Request to allow us to be removing our broken down trucks on the road as a panacea  to the outrageous charges of the state towing actors’, copied to the management of the Nigerian Ports Authority, the Nigerian Shippers Council, Lagos State Commissioner for Information, amongst others. It was signed by Ridwan Bello.

In the letter, ACTOAN said that the fee was not only outrageous devoid of human face but also injurious to the survival of their businesses.

The group in the letter said that the state agencies always prevented them from seeking the services of private operators whose services were mostly cheaper.

“Imposing a bill of N150, 000 fine and above by towing operators for a broken down truck between the distance of 200 to 1,000 meters from the road is not only outrageous, lacking human face, but injurious to the survival of our business.
