Lagos assembly calls for security beef up in general hospitals

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have called on the state governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode to direct the Police Force to ensure regular patrol on all General Hospitals in the State following the incident that happened on February 14, 2016 when some suspected hoodlums forced themselves into the Hospital premises and prevented the doctors on duty to save the life of a badly stabbed patient at the Orile Agege General Hospital. Hon. Olusegun Olulade, representing Epe Constituency II who raised the motion under a Matter of Urgent Public Importance, observed in his submission that there is a need to beef up security around the state hospitals following the ugly incident at the Orile-Agege General Hospital.

Contributing, Hon. Rotimi Olowo pointed out that the issue applied everywhere in the state and that it should not be limited to Orile-Agege alone in order to ensure maximum security in the state and forestall any further occurrence. In the words of Hon. Oluyinka Ogundimu, he said the location of general hospitals should be considered as top priority in addition to provision of adequate security. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa while ruling on the debate said, “We should not push this to the police again, the Primary Health Care Board and the Health Service Commission should provide security because these agencies have a role to play, more so the agencies should call on the Governor to mandate the Police Force in the State to do a regular patrol around our General Hospitals in the State, while the Orile Agege General Hospital incident should be investigated.”
