Image result for Nigerians should promote indigenous music – Rev. John AinaA retired music composer, conductor and organist of the Apostolic Faith Church, Lagos, Rev. John Aina, has urged fellow musicians in the country to promote indigenous songs for the sake of posterity.

Speaking during a programme tagged, ‘’90 minutes of soul-inspiring music across genres’ and organised to celebrate his 80th birthday at the University of Lagos, Akoka Campus, last Saturday, Aina described indigenous Nigerian music as a great source of entertainment that also boosts moral values in the society.

“We should ensure that the core indigenous music, especially Yoruba music, with its attendant messages of values and morals do not go into extinction. We should still bring them to fur because such songs have great impact to lives and promote informed thoughts that sustain and promote rich heritage,” he said.

Author, Prince Tony Ademuyiwa, described the octogenarian as a prolific composer who had contributed extensively to the art of music in Nigeria through his instrumental works.

He said that trending music styles in the country lack content and proper messages that promote peace, unity and development. Blaming this on existing problems in the society and the poor economy, he added, “Music should be a strong tool for promoting peace, love and unity. It is a tool that God has given to mankind to make peace in every given society.”
