Feared that the company may be sold, Addax Petroleum Gabon employees under the aegis of the International Organisation of Petroleum Employees (ONEP) have successfully negotiated a deal with the company’s management over “good separation” allowance following information that the company may likely sell its assets.
The deal which was mediated by Ghislain-Brice Athomo, the Deputy Special Inspector of Labour in charge of the oil sector, was signed by Sylvain Mayabi Binet, Acting Secretary General of ONEP and Thierry Normand, Managing Director of Addax Petroleum Gabon.
The deal which was preceded by a 15-day warning strike after an initial strike notice of 5 days, was supervised by Vilfranck Ondo Metogo, Deputy Secretary General 1 of the Ministry of Labour and Employment and Davy Thome Mboumba, Special Inspector of Labour in charge of the oil sector.
In the deal, workers with more than 15 years of service will be entitled to 72 months of wages and 60 months for those who have worked for more than a decade.
Workers who have put in below 10 years will have 48 months of monthly salary while those with duration of between one to five years will have 36 months of salary as part of the severance package.
Reuters had reported that Sinopec Group had hired BNP Paribas to sell its oil business in Nigeria and Gabon.
