A man and woman were spotted having sex near a fenced-off section of Sutton Cemetery, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts despite government messages warning against indoor meetings and close-contact.
This prompted a stunned onlooker to report the couple to West Midlands Police after spotting them romping on the grounds of Brandwood Cemetery, Kings Heath, on Thursday evening, June 11.
The Police were called amid concerns over public indecency – and fears they may not have been from the same household.
He said: “Out for a walk a couple hours ago and went through Brandwood cemetery to get to Woodthorpe road… Two people having intercourse in the fenced off pond section of the cemetery towards the Sunderton Rd side…
“It has been reported to the police and somebody working in the cemetery has also been notified. If your back garden faces this area just be cautious especially if your kids are out.”
He added: “It was mainly due to public indecency as I don’t know if they were living in the same household/ could’ve been homeless.
“I was walking with my kid in a pushchair so it was just very out the blue to see this and, of course, awful for anybody visiting to tend to a family grave.
“Once it was reported I had a follow-up call from a local police officer I believe for further details to check the area afterwards.” Officers would have attended, police suggested, but the witness stated the couple had left by that time.
A short statement from West Midlands Police read: “We were called about Brandwood Cemetery, but the caller stated the people were no longer in the park, so we did not attend.”
What are the rules?
While you can pop over to your family’s for a barbecue, you are absolutely NOT allowed to be meeting or gathering inside the homes of loved ones.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned the transmission rate for the virus was still far higher in indoor, confined spaces.
You can use the toilet facilities at a family member’s home, or a friend’s house, but stick to meeting in the garden and make sure surfaces are thoroughly cleaned before and after using the loo.
Staying overnight
The new lockdown regulations say people are not allowed to gather inside the houses of others. This includes staying overnight at another house.
Contact
Though outdoor sex may seem like a loop hole to escape both these rules above, the two-metre social distancing rules remain firmly in place to help prevent a second spike.
