Ex-convict nabbed for theft of mosque’s amplifier in Osun

Operatives of the Osun Amotekun have arrested an ex-convict, Tajudeen Ridwan for the alleged theft of a mosque amplifier.

Idowu Yusuf, the Osun Amotekun spokesperson, in a statement made available on Saturday, revealed that 30-year-old Ridwan was released from a custodial centre in March after serving a four-year jail term following his conviction for offences bordering on stealing.

He said the suspect was reportedly caught in the act again by some worshippers before Amotekun operatives were contacted.

Also commenting on the arrest, the Amotekun Corps Commander, Brigadier General Bashir Adewinmbi (retd), disclosed that the suspect disguised as a worshipper and used the opportunity to steal an amplifier from the mosque.

“He was caught after morning prayer thinking that all the worshippers had left the mosque, but luck ran against him when some worshippers saw him parking the electronic musical amplifier inside a bag.

“The attention of Amotekun Osogbo Command was called to the act and the operatives swung into action immediately and apprehended the felon on the spot.

“Upon preliminary investigation, he confessed to being an ex-convict who just completed his 4 years jail term for the same act in March this year.

“The suspect has been handed over to the police for further interrogation and prosecution,” Adewinmbi added.
