THE Niger State Police Command has arrested two notorious kidnappers in Ashuira Village, Rafi Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were trailed and apprehended by the command’s Anti-kidnapping Squad Unit.
They were identified as Yusuf Adamu, 20, of Zurmi, Zamfara State, and Ibrahim Abubakar, 27, of Pandogari in the Rafi Local Government Area of the state.
It was learnt that one Yahaya Sule of Ashuira village had reported to the police that gunmen, numbering about 15, invaded his house and killed his son,aAbubakar Yahaya, 32, and kidnapped one Kabiru Yahaya and Halira Yahaya.
Northern City News gathered that based on the information, the command went after the suspects and engaged the hoodlums in a gunfire that lasted for hours.
Our correspondent gathered also that two of the kidnappers were fatally injured during the operation.
One of the suspects, Adamu, a cattle rearer, told our correspondent that he went into crime in order to raise money to start a cattle business.
“The goats and sheep I am rearing belong to someone and I need money to start my own. That was the reason I joined the kidnapping gang but police operatives apprehended me,” he stated.
The Niger State police spokesman, Muhammad Abubakar, confirmed that the victims were rescued and a handset belonging to one of them was recovered.
Abubakar said investigation was in progress, adding that the suspects would soon be arraigned in court.
