A police inspector, identified as Bobbo; his wife, Sgt. Grace, their daughter, and a constable have been burnt to death in an early morning fire at Karewa Police Barracks in Yola, Adamawa State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Adamawa Command, Othman Abubakar, said the incident occurred around 1am and the cause of the fire was being investigated.
“Inspector Bobbo, his wife Sgt. Grace, their daughter and a newly recruited constable who is a relation that is squatting with them, were all killed in the unfortunate incident,” Abubakar said.
Some residents of the barracks, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria, said efforts to put out the fire and rescue the victims were not successful due to the burglar proof in the house.
“Many people have installed burglar proof due to petty thefts who enter houses in the barracks,” a female resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.
Meanwhile, the Adamawa Deputy Governor, Mr. Martins Babale, has visited the barracks to sympathise with the residents over the incident.
