There was chaos on the streets of Aba, Abia State on Monday as pro-Biafra protests clashed with security operatives, reportedly leading to loss of lives and property.
Pictures that are being circulated, which are yet to be independently verified, show a young man who apparently bled to his death.
The protesters were demanding the unconditional release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, who was due to appear before a High Court in Abuja today on charges bordering on treason.
According to reports, soldiers from the 144 Battalion restrained, albeit forcefully, the protesters from causing mayhem in the town.
The action of the soldiers reportedly led to bloodshed and chaos.
