Benue State government has reaffirmed its commitment to securing the state from the prevalent viral killings by suspected Fulani herdsmen men.
This was disclosed by the Deputy Governo,r Barr. Sam Ode, on behalf of the Governor, when he received a delegation from Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, at the Government House in Makurdi.
Led by CAN national Vice President, Rev. Stephen Panya Baba, the delegation offered condolences following the recent tragic killings of innocent citizens.
Barr. Ode, on behalf of the Governor, expressed deep gratitude for CAN’s visit, acknowledging its significance during this challenging time.
He delivered a strong message of assurance to the CAN delegation, “We want to assure you that we are not going to abdicate our responsibility of providing security to safeguard the lives and properties of our citizens.”
Ode emphasised the ongoing collaboration between Benue State and federal authorities to combat the attacks, stating that “concrete measures have been put in place to avert further occurrences.
“We are working round the clock to secure the state. We are not going to surrender or submit to the antics of the enemy.
“We will continue to make use of government machinery at our disposal to put an end to the mindless killings in the state.”
Earlier, Rev. Stephen Panya Baba, representative of the CAN national President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, conveyed the association’s profound condolences over the “incessant attacks on the indigenes of the state.”
He took the opportunity to reiterate CAN’s urgent plea to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, “to take deliberate measures to stop the killings in Benue.”
In a tangible display of support, CAN also provided relief materials to assist communities affected by the crisis.
The meeting was attended by several key government officials, including Dr. Emmanuel Chenge, Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, and Apostle King David Ajav, Special Adviser to the Governor on Religion and Society, among others
