Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has launched a formal investigation into the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) over prolonged power outages affecting residents, particularly in the state capital, Birnin Kebbi.
Speaking with journalists on Monday in Birnin Kebbi after a meeting with the Kebbi State Elders Consultative Forum, the governor revealed that he has directed Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, to head the probe into the matter.
Governor Idris disclosed that the state government currently provides KAEDCO with a monthly subvention of N150 million to support electricity supply efforts. In addition to the financial assistance, the government also procured 75 transformers and other critical electrical equipment based on recommendations from the distribution company.
“Some residents of Kebbi State are complaining about lack of electricity. Some say they only get power for two or three hours a day.
“Honestly, I don’t know what’s happening. As far as we’re concerned in government, we have done our part and fulfilled our obligations. This is not what we agreed upon with them,” the governor said.
He added that the investigation aims to uncover the causes of the issue and restore reliable power supply to communities across the state.
