Mob attacks police officer in Jos over seized hard drugs

A police officer sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a mob while transporting recovered hard drugs to the station in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident was contained in a post by security analyst, Zagazola Makama on his official X handle on Monday.

According to the report, the attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Polo Roundabout when two officers from the ‘C’ Division of the Nigeria Police Force attempted to arrest a suspect found in possession of hard drugs.

“The suspect, upon sighting the officers, abandoned a bag containing hard drugs and other substances suspected to be Indian hemp before fleeing into the Jenta Adamu area of Jos North LGA,” Makama wrote.

Shortly after, the suspect reportedly returned with a group of motorcycle riders and attacked the officers, who were already on their way to the station with the recovered drugs.

During the assault, one of the officers, identified as Inspector Ikale Muhammed, sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to Bingham University Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

A Bajaj Boxer motorcycle was recovered at the scene, while police reinforcements were deployed to restore order and track down the attackers.
