The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Lagos State Command, has faulted the method of the state police command’s fight against drug abuse.
The NDLEA Commander, Sulyman Aliyu, said the police had not carried along the agency in the clampdown on drug peddlers.
Sulyman, during a visit to the state Acting Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, on Tuesday stated that the police must partner the agency in tackling drug trafficking.
The commander, who jointly addressed journalists with Imohimi, added that the two agencies had, however, resolved to address “the grey areas.”
He said, “If you don’t come closer to the NDLEA, you may not know the kind of operations we do.
“If you are arresting people and the trend of drug abuse is not going down, then you look for another formula. It is only when you root out the major barons, who are the suppliers, that you will have peace. We have the intelligence and the police have the manpower. So, we can partner.”
Imohimi said the command’s onslaught on drug abuse was informed by complaints by stakeholders.
“We will have both formal and informal meetings; and moving forward, we can assure Lagos residents that we will partner to fight drug abuse in the state,” he added.
