A group, Zamfara Elders Support for Peace and Development has urged Governor Dauda Lawal to rise above political differences and work towards unified and prosperous Zamfara State.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the group stressed the importance of inclusiveness and focused leadership.
The statement noted that the elders were dismayed over the level of development that is moving with the lowest ebbs, highlighting persistent challenges, especially rural development, education, and public health, urging the State government to take urgent action.
According to the group, many primary schools in rural areas remain under resourced, while some are no longer operating due to infrastructural decay.
It said that in the health sector, there is the need for modern facilities, and qualified medical personnel to serve the growing population.
The group also pointed out the need for improved access to clean water, especially in rural communities.
According to the statement, fire service capacity is another area that calls for public attention.
The elders urged the State government to focus on emergency response infrastructure to ensure public safety in the event of fire disasters.
The group demanded transparency in budgetary decisions and expenditure, advising the present administration to ensure that public funds are directed toward programs that benefit the majority of Zamfara people, particularly in necessary areas like health, education, and civil service welfare.
They also called on the State government to collectively partner with the legislature and relevant authorities for proper oversight and checks and balances.
