The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, under its Transmission Rehabilitation and Expansion Programme (TREP) has added about 200 Megawatts to the national grid, with the installation of 100MVA, 60MVA and 60/66MVA, 132/33kV power transformers in three different transmission substations.
This came even as the average power sent out yesterday, rose to 3,642MWh/hour, an increase of 152.66MWh/h recorded the previous day. According to a report obtained from the office of the Vice President, Power Advisory Team, “1,722.5MW was not generated due to unavailability of gas. 0MW was not generated due to unavailability of transmission infrastructure, while 1,998.5MW was not generated due to high frequency resulting from unavailability of distribution infrastructure. “The dominant constraint on August 27, 2018 was high frequency resulting from unavailability of distribution infrastructure constraining a total of 1,998.5MW from being available on the grid.”
Meanwhile, in a statement , TCN’s General Manager (Public Affairs), Mrs Ndidi Mbah, said that the newly installed transformers in Ejigbo, Bida and Ado Ekiti are additions to the several power transformer projects executed in the last one year in various substations across the country. According to her, “The new 100MVA power transformer in Ejigbo has increased bulk electricity to Ejigbo Substation for Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IEDC) to distribute to its customers in Ejigbo, Egbe, Oke-Afa, Shasha, Ikotun, Ijegun, Idimu Town and Lagos airport.”
