Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) has begun an investigation to determine the source of an oil spill in Forcados, Delta State, National Mirror reports.
The company indicated in a statement that the crude oil spill was observed on water around the Forcados Terminal on Sunday, February 14, 2016. It maintained that the initial investigation would enable the company quickly determine a suitable response.
The company disclosed that SPDC JV and third party production into the terminal is being suspended as a precautionary measure. It also indicated that SPDC has activated its Emergency Response and Oil Response teams to manage the incident, while booms and other oil containment resources are being deployed to the area to try stop the spread of spilled oil.
