The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced the promotion of 2,209 personnel ahead of the forthcoming 2019 general elections.
The commission said the decision was taken after its weekly meeting which was concluded on Thursday night.
A terse statement by a member of the Information and Voter Education Committee in INEC, Mohammad Kudu Haruna, said reports about appointment, promotion and disciplinary committee on the 2018 promotion exercise were among the issues considered.
The PUNCH learnt that out of the 1,847 senior staff who took the promotion examination, 1,517 passed. In the junior staff cadre, 927 took the 2018 promotion examinations and 847 passed.
Haruna said, “In furtherance to the commission’s commitment to the welfare of its staff, 2,209 were promoted. 315 persons were promoted to directorate cadre, eight of whom have become directors.”
