APC accuses Gov Lawal of celebrating in Enugu amid killings in Zamfara

Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused Governor Dauda Lawal of celebrating at Enugu State amid insecurity in the state.

In a statement, the publicity secretary of the party, Yusuf Idris Gusau said that 54 persons have been killed, while hundreds were kidnapped in just one week, lamenting that the Governor still had the courage to be dancing in Enugu, alongside his counterparts, the PDP governors.

The statement reads in part, “It is precarious to see a leader like Governor Dauda Lawal showing nonchalant attitude to the plight of his people having left the state in mourning to dance his life away along with his colleagues, PDP governors in Enugu State.

“The Governor who released his trending video to the world on social media, is seen happily flanked in Igbo attire in a line dancing with other PDP governors barely a day after scores were killed in his State as if nothing had happened.

“Just to mention a very few recent cases in this current month of July, 2024, on the 8th, bandits attacked Kofar Jangebe situated in the central hub of Gusau, killing a policeman and a security guard to Alhaji Isiya Lalan whose son the bandits also kidnapped.

“Shortly following was the attack on the 12th by bandits on Yartasha community of Maru local government of the State, where 11 persons were reportedly killed and an unspecified number of community members carried away to the forests.

“On the following day, the 13th, Tsafe town of Tsafe local government, about 30km from the State capital, Gusau was attacked by bandits who killed one person and abducted many.

“Again, on the 14th, Maguru town in Kaura Namoda local government was attacked, resulting in the killing of 20 people while many, including women and children, were abducted with animals rustled.

“On the 15th was Magami district in Gusau local government area, the bandits unleashed their terror on the community, killing 10 people and abducted others.

“This was closely followed on the 16th, when the bandits laid siege on Dan-Isah village, killing 11 persons and abducted many.”

The publicity secretary alleged that the governor and his government watched without any action.

He reminded the Governor of one of his major campaign promises in 2023, where he assured that he would end banditry in the State within his first one month in office.

“Today, after one year in office, the people of the State could only see the Governor on television stations and social media platforms within and outside the country, enjoying highlife with his friends, family and colleagues while his State bleeds.

“We wish to plead with the Governor to remember his promises and the current role he occupies so that he can reverse these unbecoming attitudes for the better.

“As a party, we commend the efforts of the security agencies in the State for their dedication and sacrifice to the people of the state.

“We equally extend our heartfelt condolences to the affected families and pray to Almighty Allah to accept their shahadat and give their respective families the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss,” he further said.
