I will appeal court order to include PDP in Anambra Central rerun – Victor Umeh

Victor Umeh

Victor UmehCandidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for Anambra Central Senatorial rerun election, Chief (Sir) Victor Umeh has threatened to appeal the court order instituted by PDP which ordered INEC to accommodate PDP in the rerun election.
Chief Umeh who spoke to newsmen on Wednesday, said INEC postponed the rerun election scheduled to hold this Saturday in order to appeal against the court order.

Citing some court judgments to buttress his point, Chief Umeh pointed out that the same woman judge and the same court disqualified APC and PDP’s prayer to participate in Kogi East Senatorial rerun election, arguing why it now ruled otherwise and included PDP in the Anambra Central rerun election.
It would be recalled that INEC had barred PDP from participating in the rerun following a Court of Appeal’s judgment on December 7, 2015, which nullified the March 28, 2015 election of the party’s candidate, Mrs Uche Ekwunife.

The appellate court had, in the judgment, averred that “the 11th respondent (Ekwunife) has been barred from participating in the Anambra Central senatorial election,”

The PDP subsequently approached the Federal High Court, Abuja, praying that the court should order INEC to allow it to participate in the rerun, a prayer the court granted on Monday.

With their prayer accepted, reports say top stakeholders had endorsed the immediate past governor of Anambra state, Mr Peter Obi as PDP’s candidate for Anambra Central rerun.
Reacting to Obi’s endorsement, the BoT Chairman of Willie Obiano Support Group and SSA to the Governor on Interparty Affairs, Chief Ben Obi said APGA is not afraid of any candidate from PDP, adding that APGA would do her best to support Victor Umeh and ensure he actualize his senatorial ambition.

“What is happening now is for good. I want a situation whereby Peter Obi and Uche Ekwunife would be accommodated so that we can destroy them once and for all.

“Nobody is afraid of them. We are ready for them for the big showdown. They are afraid of us while we are confident of winning the rerun,” Chief Obi maintained.
