Douye Diri has assured that he would remain governor for all citizens of Bayelsa State, irrespective of their political affiliation.
He made the announcement in a speech not long after Prof. Kuta Farouq, the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, announced him the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
Diri polled a total of 175, 196 votes to defeat his closest rival, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who got a total of 110, 108 votes.
The governor also thanked the electorate for voting for him.
He added, “I am also immensely grateful to the leadership of our great party – the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels and our dedicated campaign team and supporters, who worked tirelessly to spread our message of progress and unity throughout Bayelsa State.
“Your unwavering belief in our vision for prosperity and your relentless efforts have brought us this sweet victory.”
